This edition of the RoJaRo-Index is also dedicated to Kjell Bråstad (1948-2016).

The RoJaRo-Index has passed 2.5 million references, and with no funding at all and no financial help from you, the users, things have got to change.
As I see it, there are only two solutions, either to include ads on the web pages, or to make the RoJaRo-Index a subscription only service.
Please let me know what you think about this matter by sending an e-mail to the address found under "About us".

That is all for now

This edition of the RoJaRo-Index is dedicated to Kjell Bråstad (1948-2016).

Kjell was one of those rare individuals who went out of his way to support a project without any personal interest in the work as such nor the subject at hand.

At a time when the archive was in desparate need of a secure storage space, he was willing to offer help just based on his perception of the value of the RoJaRo and what I was trying to achieve. His trust in me and my project was vital and will always be remembered and appreciated.

Through the years that followed Kjell became a very important discussion partner and a friend. He was always there to share both the ups and downs involved in trying to keep this work alive, offering sound advice and consolation which meant a lot to me.

He will be sorely missed.

A huge thank you from

dear friends,

as some of you may notice, a few changes have been made in the presentation of the magazines. Since my last update, I've revised and updated the complete Music Magazine List adding a lot of new titles in the process.

I've also decided to hide the Record Label List. I may reintroduce it in the future, but I feel I have to focus on building the main index and the music magazine list.

Hope you enjoy the new RoJaRo. During these last twelve months the RoJaRo has had users from 123 different countries, so we're really International by now...

as you may have noticed, it is now possible to order bound print-outs from the huge RoJaRo-Index. If you are mainly interested in a certain artist/group, or you collect a specific magazine, this is your chance to get the info you need when offline. Click on the link on the right side of the page to get more information.

The total database will eventually be available only to members of the "friends of the rojaro", so enjoy while you can...

oslo, february 10th 2013

here's another batch of references to articles and reviews in the International music press, and several new magazines/fanzines have been added as usual.
Due to a sprained wrist I'll keep it short this time.
Please remember I'm still looking for a serious partner to secure the survival and development of this reference project in addition to a permanent home for the huge music magazine collection covering late 1950s to date?

another update is complete, and lots of new magazines have been added.
On the bright side, the RoJaRo-Archive has received a substantial donation from Ann Kristin Hjortbakk consisting of most of the record & tape collection of her late father, Per Edgar Hjortbakk. The collection was a valuable addition to the sound collection of the archive, so I'm very grateful.
Contrary, the overall situation for the RoJaRo is still uncertain as I have yet to find a new storage facility for my collection. The light at the end of the tunnel mentioned previously proved to be another mirage, so I'm still looking...

another update is complete, and the two million records mark has been passed!
Some basic changes will be made in the next web update, so enjoy my work which I hope continues to be of value to you all.
The overall situation for the RoJaRo is still uncertain as I have to find a new storage facility for my collection, but there may be light in the end of a very long tunnel.

another update is complete, and next time around the database will probably pass two million records!
The overall situation for the RoJaRo is a little uncertain at the moment as I have to find a new storage facility for my collection. Hopefully something will turn up.

hello again,
finally I'm very pleased to be able to give you all the new search options into the complete RoJaRo database!
Hans-Christian Holm gave me invaluable help getting the new programs ready, and George assisted me on the update.

on the negative side; in about a year from now I will loose the facilities where I've kept the complete RoJaRo-Archive collection, so I'm in a big hurry to find a permanent institutional/public home for the project in Norway or abroad.
anyone who's interested or have any ideas, please contact me as soon as possible.

oslo, july 19th 2008

hi again,
here's a new batch of about 40.000 new references. I have not been able to develop the new search options yet as I've been busy trying to find a permanent solution for the RoJaRo-Archive. hopefully next time...
once again great kudos to George Helmke for his invaluable help.

oslo, february 22nd 2008

hello friends and strangers,
here's we go again with another batch of ca 116.000 new references into the database. a lot of new titles have also been added.

another year has gone since the previous update of the index. the database has been forced to move from my previous host, NOTAM, due to budget cuts. a big thank you to them for their help all these years!
due to this move, better communication programs between the "motherbase" and the web edition have been made. hopefully this will mean that i soon will be able to keep the rojaro updated daily.
i've also decided to try to put all the different search options back into the RoJaRo by the next update. plans of a subscription based edition are put on hold for now, but it may pop up again later on.

once again; remember that the motherbase of the RoJaRo-Index continues to develop all the time (even when it's not visible to you out there).

as always i hope my work will be of value to you all. if you find any faults, please let me know so i can correct them.

hello friends and strangers,
finally you get access to the result of my blood, sweat & sore shoulders during these last 14 months or so, almost 125.000 new references, lots of new titles included etc.

a lot has been happening around me since the previous update of the index. steps have been taken towards the establishment of a public RoJaRo-Archive in Kristiansand in the Southern part of Norway. it's too early to know the outcome of these plans, but i'm hopeful we'll be able to make it happen.

regarding the future of the index, the one thing certain is that it will continue to grow. wise from my previous experiences i'm not going to make any promises regarding the next update on the web, as i will use a lot of my time during the next couple of years to prepare the necessary new programs related to online indexing, the extended subscription version of the index with possibility of future daily updates.

please remember that the motherbase of the RoJaRo-Index continues to develop all the time (even when it's not visible to you out there).

as always i hope my work will be of value to you all. if you find any faults, please let me know so i can correct them.

Oslo, October 21th 2005 .

Hi,
finally I can welcome you to the new edition of the RoJaRo-Index!
It's been a long and hard struggle making this technologically totally remodelled edition of the RoJaRo. All programs from my home registration system to the web scripts etc had to be written anew. In addition I had to keep the indexing of magazines going at full speed.
The functionality of this new RoJaRo has been improved to make it easier to move between the various sections of the site.
As some of you will see, there are some changes (in addition to the fact that the index has grown from 744.641 references to the current 1.333.868). Here's a short list of some of them:

- You can only search on name in the main index. The additional searches are currently reserved for a future subscription based index.

- Supporting magazines & record labels will now receive logo placement with links to their homepages to make it mor interesting for them to join the project.

- Search results now have permanent URLs to make it possible to link directly references related to specific artists or records.

You will also notice that a lot of new magazines have been included since the previous edition of the RoJaRo, some have been discontinued and some are waiting in line to be updated into the main index. I do my utmost to keep as many of the zines & magazines completely updated as possible, but I only have one life.
To find out which issues I've indexed of a certain magazine, you'll have to look it up in the RoJaRo- Music Magazine List.
The RoJaRo is still completely a labour of love without any financial gain on my part. I'm currently working on establishing the complete RoJaRo collection of music magazines and recorded material as a public research archive, but until then I'll probably have to keep this enormous project going on my own.
In a work this size there's bound to be some errors, misspellings etc, so if you see some please let me know. (Contact info is found under About Us.

Lastly, I want to thank my love Gurli for her continued support, George for helping me with the new registration system and Hans-Christian & Vegard for writing the necessary programs for getting the info out to you web-users.
I sincerely hope the information the RoJaRo provides will help you all, and that you will continue to use my work.

Yours,
kjetil maria aase
